Creek water cold and clear,
Shifting sand ripples under my feet,
Which of us travels farther?
Hot sunlight pooling
in the patio at noon—
The wind-chime sounds… once...
Dry cicada shell—
After this generation,
will I see the next?
The cat crouches, stares,
then slinks away—a killer
fearful of killers.
